Zoom75 Keyboard

This was a commission done for a good friend of mine. She wanted a bright pink board and the Zoom75 paired with the GMK Hazakura's is just such an excellent pairing. She wanted creamy sounding switches and I don't know if there is a creamier switch than the HMX Sillyworks Hyacinth switches. It is the second time I have made a board with those switches and I am envious of both of them. This is a gorgeous board and one of the best I have built and modified. The Zoom75 comes with a lot of the mods I would normally install, like switch pads and foam. So, I did not need to add much more other than the forcebreak and stabilizer pads. I did not want to tape mod this board because I think it would take away from the sound.

Specs:

Keyboard:Zoom75
Keycaps:GMK Hazakura
Switches:HMX Sillyworks Hyacinth v2
Stabilizers:Wuque v3.1 stabilizers lubed with BDZ and 205g0
Mods:Forcebreak, Stabilizer pads

YUNZII Keynovo

I made this board for a friend that wanted pink, purple, and white to match with her room and setup. She also wanted switches that weren't too loud but still had a nice sound and I do think they sound really tamed but fun. The awesome thing about this board is that all the components could be bought on amazon and it is rather cost efficient compared to most keyboards in this Hobby.

MOLLY Polycarbonate

from The Key Company

This was a personal project I took on where I wanted to showcase my abilities as a keyboard builder. I wanted to put Mill-Max hotswap sockets in this board to broaden its capabilities and add to my knowledge in the field. I also wanted to make as flashy of a board as possible in both looks and sound. I had GMK Nightrunners and have been wanting to use them for the right board and I thought the attention grabbing yellow worked well for this board especially considering the underglow that shines through the PC body. I tested many switches in the making of this board but the clacky long pole dk Sarus took the cake when paired with the Molly's brass plate and PC body. I wasn't a fan of the 67g springs so I replaced them with sprit supreme mx 63.5g springs and they are much more comfortable and snappy. The sound is very unique and a joy to type with.

Keyboard:MOLLY Polycarbonate
Keycaps:GMK Nightrunners
Switches:DK Sarus
Lubricant:Tribosys 3203

Stabilizers:C3 Equalz Stabilizers lubed

KBD67 v1

This was my first personal custom keyboard. I saw most people doing the smaller sized keyboards and thought I would give it a try too. Originally they had holy panda switches in them lubed with tib 3203 but ultimately I did not like the smaller form factor and wanted to upgrade to a keyboard with a numpad. I still like to keep this though since it was my first foray into this hobby. It was also challenging to get the keycaps! I found them on the reddit mechmarket from someone selling them in Singapore. They are some of the best keycaps I have ever used and my first high quality ABS keycaps which caused me to be a fan of the material.

Specs:

Keyboard:KBD67
Keycaps:DSA Legacy Keycaps from Pimpmykeyboard x Drop
Switches:Kalih Box Pale Blue
Stabilizers:Zeal Stabilizers Lubed
Mods:Bandaid Mod

Keychron Q5

This was a board I wanted to make to match with my best friend who is also in the hobby. They own the Red Samurai GMK Keycap set with Holy Pandas so I wanted to do the blue counter part and the new Holy Panda X's. I also wanted to try tactile switches again after having been away from them for a few years. I still prefer Linears but these are one of my favorite tactile switches due to how smooth and pleasant the feel/sound. I really like Keychron stuff and wanted to try out some of the new mods and products on the market these days. This was my first time trying out Tribosys 3204 and I can now easily say it is my favorite lubricant, Staebies are also amazing stabilizers, and Holy Panda X's gave me a new appreciation of tactile switches. Also, the steel plate on the Keychron board rocks.

Specs:

Keyboard:Keychron Q5 QMK
Keycaps:GMK Blue Samurai
Switches:Holy Panda X switches Lubed with Tribosys 3204
Films:C3 Equalz films
Stabilizers:Staebies v2 Stabilizers Lubed with Tribosys 3204
Mods:Switch pads, Stabilizer pads, Tape Modded

KBD 19x

This keyboard was another personal one and was the replacement for the KBD67 I used. This was the very first keyboard I ever soldered! Finishing it boosted my confidence in this hobby and only further pushed me into it. Even though it doesn't have the current mods of today, I still think it sounds excellent!

Specs:

Keycaps:GMK Pulse Keycaps
Switches:Tealio Linear Switches with Tribosys 3203
Stabilizers:C3 Equalz v1 Stabs lubed with Dielectric grease on the wire and Tribosys 3203 for the housing
Mods:Bandaid Mod

KBDfans Odin v2

This is my endgame board and what is currently on my desk! This board was many months in the making. I tested dozens of switches, various lubricants and stabilizers, and ended up with the ones listed. Everything just worked perfectly together as according to my personal taste, which is what this hobby is all about! I wanted a classy and subdued look so I went with just the white on black keycaps. Normally I go with GMK keycaps but I wanted to give the Drop DCX keycaps a chance and ended up liking them more. Normally I would do a tape mod but after finding out about the force break mod I decided to try that instead and I think the sound suits this keyboard a bit better. I truly love this thing!

Specs:

Keyboard:KBDFANS ODIN V2
Keycaps:Drop DCX White on Black
Switches:DK Oni Switches Lubed with Tribosys 3204
Films:TX .150mm
Stabilizers:TX 1.2mm v3 Stabilizers lubed with Krytox BDZ on the wires and Tribosys 3204 on the housings
Mods:Stabilizer pads, Switch pads, Force Break Mod

Keychron Q1 with
GMK Red Samurais

I made this board for a friend who wanted a keyboard that resembled their Final Fantasy XIV character's theme. As a red haired blackmage, they cast a lot of fire spells and wanted the clack of their keys to sound like crackling fire! We listened to many switch recordings to find something that was similar to that sound and ended up with the gateron box ink pinks v2! I added a tape mod, switch pads, and stabilizer pads to complete the sound profile.

Specs:

Keyboard:Keychron Q1 75% Keyboard
Keycaps:GMK Red Samurai
Switches:Gateron Box Ink Pink v2 lubed with Krytox 205g0
Films:TX .150mm
Stabilizers:Gateron Ink lubed with Krytox 205g0
Mods:Tape Mod, Switch Pads, Stabilizer Pads

KBD19X with
EPBT Miami Nights

I made this keyboard because I was a fan of UHMWPE material and wanted to see if a switch using that material entirely would be and smooth as I hoped for. The results were a success, being an incredibly smooth linear switch. Originally, this board was supposed to use the "GMK Nightrunners" that are currently on the Molly board but they proved to be incompatible with the stems. I tried the EPBT keycaps and they worked! I was lucky to get my hands on the revision 3 stems from 415 keys and not the revision 3.1 or revision 4 stems which are said to have many problems. I love this board and used it for a long time before I decided it was time for something new.

Specs:

Keyboard:KBD19X 95% Keyboard
Keycaps:EPBT Miami Nights ABS
Switches:"Frankenswitches" Made with 63g Tangerines and 415 keys UHMWPE Linear Stems Rev. 3 lubed with Krytox 205g0
Stabilizers:c3 Equalz Stabilizers v.1 lubed with Dielectric Grease on the Wire and Krytox 205g0 in the Housing
Mods:Bandaid Mod

Reviews

Here are some notes from previous customers!

"Just typing on it was a magical experience. I'm f*cking obsessed with the keys. It's beautiful."

"I wasn't sure what to expect from my very first custom board. For 10+ years I'd gamed and written on cheap office/gaming keyboards because spending any real amount of money for something more extravagent seemed like a huge waste. After all, how different could one board really from another, so long as it worked?
Dead. Wrong. As long as it's within my means, there is no way I could go back to using stock boards or even some of the higher end gaming keyboards on the market today. Not only can a custom board outshine those options in terms of sheer customization available to you, the response, the feel, the sound - it is all in a league of its own.
While a keyboard should probably take lower priority compared to say, your actual PC and its displays, I can confidently say the keyboard is not something you should neglect if you're looking to upgrade another aspect of your setup. The biggest hurdle for me was just finding someone who knew what they were talking about - and Lief was able to explain every nut and bolt that went into it, down to the very frame of the board itself, and I couldn't be happier with it. Terms of Service

I take pride in my work and am meticulous with each step that goes into making your board. Though, due to the custom nature of this hobby, all sales are final. However, if you are unhappy with your product contact me and I will make it right.

Methodology

With just how many steps, videos, products, and websites there are on this hobby, it can be very confusing and overwhelming figuring out where to even start. I am here to make it all very easy for you!I start by asking a few questions to narrow down what you are looking for, give some examples on different sound profiles, give my own experience and expertise on the subject, and guide you through the various sites and products that fit what you are looking for. Once all the pieces are picked out, they are shipped to me where I will begin crafting your board as soon as possible. I will update you on every step of the build via discord or whichever platform works best for you.

I start with lubing the switches, testing different lubes and seeing which works best for the specific switch. As this is the most time consuming part, it is important to start by figuring out the best lube for the job. It is said that linear switches should use thicker lubes and while that is usually the case, some materials tend to work better with thinner lube so I like to check that first just to make sure your switches are just right!

Then, I lube the stabilizers to prepare them for the keyboard. Depending on the stabilizer type, different lubes will be used as some lube types with tighter stabilizers can lead to too much resistance and that would only hurt your keyboard's feel!

After that I begin adding the various mods to the keyboard like switch pads, stabilizer pads/bandaid mod, force break mod, and so on. While it is nice to add as many mods as possible, sometimes they are not necessary for your specific keyboard and may even take away from the richness of sound that can be produced! On the other hand, some keyboards need all the help they can get. So, I will help you determine what would work best, what would be needed, and what can be passed on to achieve the best feel and sound for your board.

Tape Mod

Switch Pads

Mill-Max Hot Swap Sockets

Soldering Station

Finally, I will put the entire thing together, test it, double check everything, and if it meets my standards I will complete the build. For my own records I like to make a sound recording and take pictures of the board. Soon, I would also like to take video recordings of each board too. I can provide all that if you would like too!

About Me

Razer Blackwidow 2010 Fullsize mechanical keyboard with cherry blue switches

Hello, my name is Lief! Welcome to my site and thank you so much for your visit. I remember when I was just seventeen years old my father brought home a mechanical keyboard (shown here) to game with. I remember being fascinated by the sound and feel of the board and have been in love with them ever since.

From there on out, I have only ever used gaming mechanical keyboards until I ran into this hobby. Now, I will never go back. The satisfaction of building a keyboard while seeing, feeling, and hearing what you have created is just far too rewarding to give up. I love this hobby and put that love into every step of building a keyboard. I enjoy learning new things, researching new methods, browsing new products, and keeping up with how the hobby evolves.I take a lot of pride in my work and guarantee to make the best keyboard I possibly can for you!
